Before I started working on Advertisers or joined SidePrize, I was working on a similar project for fantasy sports fans. After starting the season with four straight losses, I was making a comeback that would eventually lead me to the Red Square fantasy football championship. A combination of my own experience and the sudden rise of companies like DraftKings and FanDuel made it hard to avoid the fantasy industry.
I laid the idea to rest and decided to build a community for people in advertising instead. It made more sense at the time, because football season was winding down. Plus, following in the steps of communities like Designer News, I felt that I would have more leverage focusing on a specific industry.
After leaving the advertising to start working on SidePrize, it only felt right to start working on my fantasy community again. And that’s where we are today—two months shy of football season—I’m announcing Fantasy News. Instead of being built of of WordPress it is built off of my friend, Sacha Grief’s Telescope.
If you’ve spent any time on Advertisers, you know the page load times can be a bit slow. Fantasy news is built with Telescope and Meteor, which is lightning fast. If you’re a fantasy player, I’d encourage you to go ahead, sign-up and join the discussion.
