You know, I was always a pretty poor engineer. On the other hand I always had a pretty strong product sense and eye for details. So I leaned into that.
Agents are already much better at engineering than I am. I expect we're not too far from them being a better designer than I am soon
The work I do today feels nothing like what I used to do. Whatever this is, it’s something new. And I couldn’t be more excited about the future.

Historically, I'd only wireframe when I felt like the concept needed more feedback than the details.
The same is true with prototypes today.

While I really like prototypes, because you can convey ideas easier by interacting with the real thing, it’s also important to know when not to do them.
Prototypes have this flaw that because everything is already built, and it looks so real, people might assume that all the decisions have already been made.
That’s because the building step was the most expensive before AI, but it’s not anymore.
So sometimes, it’s better to ask the why first. Why are we making this in the first place?
Allow yourself to be slow, write a doc with your reasoning, and only after you are aligned, start prototyping.
It all comes down to judgement and taste at the end of the day, whether it’s an animation or an important product decision.
You need to develop great taste, it’s more important than ever.
The new Instagram logo is getting a lot of hate. Honestly, I think it's a pretty sharp upgrade, while keeping the character of the original.
Also nobody, under 30 knows how to read cursive anyways lol.

I think it's telling that Figma is listed last here.
Once a prototype that has been validated, the next step is incorporating that design into the code base, not creating design specs.

If all the @hgtv shows, Hometown is probably the best. @ErinRNapier and @scotsmanco are incredibly talented. Most of the renovations aren't my taste and I still think they're great.
The Xbox 360 iteration was just about perfect. That design has mostly carried over to the X. It's significantly more comfortable than the Sony controllers.
Question for other product design teams—how strict are you about layer/group names? Why?

If you can’t articulate what you do (what you work on – not what your title means) to a person outside your field in a few sentences: then you don’t actually grasp the importance, let alone impact, of your work.
Neomorphism is visually interesting, but seems to have the same flaws of flat design without any of the benefits.
Low contrast in most of the designs are certainly a discovery/
accessibility problem. At the same time it would be time-intensive to build complex elements.

I know some hate it, but here are my observations on Neomorphism.
- Diagonal light & shadows
- Gradients (optional)
- No textures
- Buttons look more tactile
- Can adapt to dark mode
If you don’t exaggerate, implementation is adding 2 shadows and 2 inner shadows (optional).

Only course of action is to employ a similar across all logos-same texture, color, grayscale, etc...
Logos can be brilliant on their own, but together they smudge design styles. In the end it cheapens the appeal of each mark.
Few things destroy a beautiful website more than adding a collection of logos to a page.

I will say that the @Yahoo design team has done some great work lately. The Yahoo Weather App, and @Flickr redesign are fantastic.
I don't dislike the new Yahoo! logo, but I feel for the designers. Micromanaged and design by committee-they got both.
